What if doctor doom beyonder
What if Doom discovered his mistake before it was too late and won the Secret War? And featuring the conclusion of a special five part back-up story, 'What if the Runaways Became the Young Avengers? What If? Secret Wars 1 - What If I truly wanted to love this issue. I'm a huge fan of Secret Wars and an even bigger fan to anything and everything What if. This issue had it all: great cover, great art, excellent storyline, good pacing. It reads as if it's been translated through BabelFish from some middle-eastern language.
This boggles my mind since Karl Bollers, the writer, worked on some rather good stuff most notably Soldier X, which I found to be hilarious. I just can't wrap my h This edit will also create new pages on Comic Vine for:. Brian Cronin : It reminds me of the story of how Igor Kordey had to draw, like, two issues of New X-Men in less than a month and have his issues follow Frank freakin' Quitely. Flavio Sette : Soldier X is probably more representative of Kordey's art, which is damn good.
Gleeful One : Did Zeck ever do another monthly book? DavidJustDavid : Zeck did the Punisher miniseries after this as well, although I don't think he finished it Brian Cronin : Yeah, we actually sort of owe Zeck the credit for the Punisher becoming so big or is that blame? Brian Cronin : He was so hot coming off of this series that Marvel would have greenlit anything he wanted to do.
Brian Cronin : I imagine when you can create stuff out of thin air, consuming it means a bit less. Brian Cronin : But that speaks to the inconsistencies that we mentioned last issue, where Galactus can create it, but then "needs" to consume it for power. How did he have the power to get it in the first place? You'd think somebody would have done it sooner or tried it again after this. Brian Cronin : And here, "So you're saying, Galactus couldn't devour this world, so he's devouring his own thing so that he can power up and devour this world again?
Brian Cronin : Rhodey continues his iffy series by saying, "Hey, who cares if we're blinded? Flavio Sette : Mattel really missed out here by not putting out special Irradiated Skeleton versions of the figures.
Brian Cronin : So Galactus' power is diverted to Doombase, where many villains are, and Torch just has to shout, "it can't be Doom!
Brian Cronin : A. You sound dumb saying, "it can't be Doom" just because you left him in a cell. DavidJustDavid : Not for nothing, I like we get to see Wolverine's little mask-flaps in skeleton form Disappearer : If he's part of Marvel's Holy Trinity he should have been able to get out of there without breaking a sweat.
Flavio Sette : That's the last time Galactus has any real role in this issue maybe even this whole story , right? He just sorta disappears. Later he's just floating in space, chilling, I guess. Flavio Sette : They make a huge deal out of Galactus eating the planet, and the whole thing is resolved in like four pages. Brian Cronin : Yeah, it has been five issues of, "Oh man, Galactus might somehow eat the planet". Avash : Well, that lead to Doom getting his powers, it's not like the plot didn't go anywhere.
Brian Cronin : Shooter's rocking some trippy dialogue for powered up Doom. DavidJustDavid : I like that Doom can peer into souls now, and all the villains are shown as heads except that pose from Enchantress. Or maybe Galactus just never uses this power because he considers it beneath him.
Flavio Sette : Now that Doom can see everyone's burning desires, his team-ups with the other villains are gonna be extra awkward now that Doom knows everyone's kinks and fantasies.
Brian Cronin : I am glad we have Reed here to let us know that Captain Marvel's mind link suddenly being cut off is not good. Brian Cronin : And then, "Incredible!
Magneto is moving this metal ship somehow! There's not even any power on! How is this happening? DavidJustDavid : By this point they've seen him be crazy powerful throughout their history. DavidJustDavid : Just want to point out Nightcrawler is given some terrible out-of-character dialogue in the power-up scene. Brian Cronin : "You care about the green folks and the orange folk, but what about the mutant folk, Cap?
Flavio Sette : Yeah, I was going to say that, David. Sounds like something Torch or Hawkeye would say, not Kurt. DavidJustDavid : Yeah, it's like Shooter wrote it and then randomly chose someone for Cyclops to respond to. DavidJustDavid : Wasp is standing there awkwardly during the speech feeling weird for calling Magneto 'Hitler' earlier.
Avash : That's a good point? Have Avengers ever tried to take Magneto down before? How much interaction did Cap have with Mag? Brian Cronin : Wolverine can have some sort of point without necessarily tying it into "don't give Magneto any guff. Brian Cronin : It just seems like, shockingly enough for this series, new characterization for the sake of new characterization. Here's what happens in What If? Introduced in What If? He agreed to Reed's offer to become Doom's lab assistant and helped complete Doom's machine -- proving to the, in this case, not a villain he needed to find a way to rescue his mother from Mephisto.
Doom travels the world -- not driven by hate and fury, but by noble intentions to save his mother and protect the world. Doom accomplished many of his goals - saving his mother, liberating Latveria and being named king and even marrying Valeria.
Mephisto eventually attacked all of Latveria in a bid to claim a soul back from Doom. In the end, Doom can't give up his nation or even own life out of the belief that the world still needs him , and is forced to sacrifice Valeria to Mephisto. Doom then entered self-imposed exile within his castle, only venturing out of his isolation to try and rescue Valeria from Mephisto as he saved his mother years earlier. In What If? Arthur and his loyal Black Knight both fell against Doom, who remained in the past and began a campaign to conquer the world.
Years later, a mysterious woman appeared before Eirik Garrettson, the nephew of the slain Black Knight. Alongside Merlin -- aka Nathaniel Richards -- the woman explains Doom's intentions to conquer the world and spur Eirik and his people to battle.
Eventually revealed to be Valeria, daughter of Doom and the now-dead Morgan le Fay, the young woman sleeps with Eirik on the eve of battle and ends up pregnant with his child. While Eirik embraces the Ebony Blade and ends up being the only survivor of the actual battle, Valeria and Nathaniel end up confronting Doom inside his castle.
Doom briefly fatally wounds Nathaniel, but Eirik arrives and kills Doom.
